What kind of mic...
... would be put in the witness box at the Phil Spector trial? Why, one of those 1950s-crooner mics, of course!

could be related to the fact that court allowed this trial to be broadcast on television, the mic would make sense for that purpose. that's not "standard equipment" for a county court house.
